An actor and a screenwriter start talking about their professional projects and end up sharing inner feelings and frustrations. They are intoxicated with beer and wine, so they manage to rewind and rethink their discussion.
„A Duet” is one of the three shorts that make the omnibus presented at the Anonimul International Independent Film Festival in 2013. A discussion between an actor and a screenplay writer takes place in an area destined to outdoor film projection, seasoned with a lot of alcohol. The conversation verges on the absurd and the meaning breaks when the actor declares flat that “there are no stories left”.
From now on, the misunderstanding gets deeper, and the two start rewinding the conversation several times to see who is responsible for the bad communication. In contrast to other recent Romanian shorts, this one seems to approach an almost classical type of language and situational comic, in the style of Caragiale’s sketches.
A short to be seen and savoured in the Romanian short films online collection on the Cinepub platform.
“For some time now, I’ve been thinking about a screenplay, and I have no idea where to begin.”
“Truth be told, there are no stories left.”
“Why it matters, that’s where you didn’t pay attention…”
