PLOT SUMMARY:

Read more:

In an old Dacia, four good friends from a village get off on a trip to Bucharest to celebrate one of them turning 18. Everything is planned „by the book”, starting with the food and finishing with the fun: first a movie, then maybe some fooling around with the girls. Everything changes when the birthday guy asks for too much: he’d like to drive the car, although he doesn’t have a driving license yet.

„By the book” is, ultimately, one of those Romanian shorts about young people and the way they discover limits, about how, when one is 18, one wants it all and one wants it now.

A film that successfully completes the selection of Romanian shorts online on Cinepub.ro

Lines:

„(…) happy birtday, kid… What am I saying, you’re a grown man from now on…”

I would have cut you, so even your mother wouldn’t recognize you…”

„Will you give me the car a bit, you know I’m good.”

„Or, we fix it tomorrow, when we calm down, it’s his birthday after all…”

„The lady comes as a warranty.”

„But I didn’t do nothing to him, I swear!”
„I thought he’s dead-drunk.”
