After two years in prison, Matilda is granted a 24-hour temporary release. Not willing to return, she plans to escape, flee the country and start afresh. The struggle for a new life reminds her that freedom is one choice away.

The movie belongs to the so-called Romanian films of the New Realism, with tough topics and characters that carry heavy faults in a crude and merciless sunlight. Ana Ularu brings to life one of those condemned characters, seen more in classical Romanian films, whose future is made impossible by their past.

Support being refused by all her, at one time, close people, Matilda raises from the ashes when she finds her true call and, at the same time, the only possible way to go on with her life: to save her son, abandoned in the past, from the dangerous „outbound” existence.

To this purpose, Matilda puts on a life and death, against the clock, fight that she seems, almost until the end, to win.

„Bogdan George Apetri proves to be, already from his debut, a worth watching representative of the New Romanian Cinema, and the more remarkable his success is as he goes beyond all pervading realism, benefiting from drama and technical knowledge he got in the American school, to which he adds an original directorial approach.” (Mihai Fulger –

It is remarkable the fact that the director lays a heavy imprint through the atmosphere and the editing, may be the most original imprint I have seen in the last two years in the Romanian film.” (Violeta Ion –

„If you’re here for money, I can’t help you.”

„I left home, so? I didn’t take anything and never asked for any favours.”

„ (…) You think I had a choice?” „ You had a choice, but you made the wrong one.”

„What were you doing with that guy in that car, huh? (…) Is that what you do now?”
