PLOT SUMMARY
Carturan’s life, a 60-year-old man, is turned upside down when he learns that, due to an incurable illness about which he knew nothing, he has very little time left. His situation is even more complicated because he is responsible for caring for his 14-year-old orphaned nephew.
During the time he has left, the man wants to address two very important things for him: finding the best possible place for his nephew to live until he is old enough to fend for himself and organizing a memorial service for his own soul, as is customary in the region from which he hails. This tradition will bring Carturan into conflict with the local priest, who insists on adhering to Christian rituals.
Seeing that things are not going in the direction he desires, Carturan realizes that he must make some unexpected choices.
