PLOT SUMMARY
Psychological drama, based on the novella “Moara cu noroc” by Ioan Slavici. The action takes place in the 1870s at an isolated inn near Arad. Greedy for money, the innkeeper Ghiță associates himself with Sămădău in criminal activities, but ends up destroying his life and his family.
Ghiță and Ana arrive at the inn called “Moara cu noroc.” Here, the two of them, along with their children, aim to build a better life free from worries. However, peace cannot be found at the inn unless you are in cahoots with Lică Sămădăul, so Ghiță tries to maintain a good relationship with him, as well as with the smuggler Pintea. Ghiță is dragged by Lică into various dirty businesses that will distance him from his family, and together with Pintea, he will try to expose Lică.
This film, directed by Victor Iliu, is one of the gems of Romanian cinema, portraying the psychological depth of the main character and depicting the irreversible destruction caused by the love for money.

The film premiered on January 26th at Cinema “Patria” (formerly known as Cinema Aro), where another Romanian masterpiece, “O noapte furtunoasă” by Jean Georgescu, had its premiere in ’43.
