PLOT SUMMARY
Two men and a woman travel on a barge loaded with weapons on the Danube in August 1944, among mines laid by the nazis. The tension between three is heightened, first by the danger, then by the suspicion and male rivalry.
WHAT CRITICS SAY:
“A film of the recent history, of «lived» history, set in August 1944, towards the end of World War II. Without diminishing the significance of the plot, Liviu Ciulei transformed the plot itself into a pretext, his bet – won – with the cinematography, consisting in the portretistic approach, in the confrontation of the characters involved in the conflict” (Călin Căliman, History of Romanian Film)
