The CineMAiubit International Student Film Festival has reached a quarter of a century this year. The 25th edition will open on Tuesday, December 14, 2021 physically at Cinemateca Eforie and live on CINEPUB.RO.

Crossing together, this strange period in which physical distance prevents us from enjoying the fullness of the collective experience offered by watching movies at the cinema, CineMAiubit Festival wants not to abdicate from the classic formula that has consecrated it: films screened on big silver. At the same time, thanks to the main partner of the festival, the well-known platform CINEPUB.RO, the films projected in the festival will be able to be watched all over Romania.

The organizers have chosen this year to pay special attention to the Romanian student film and the young local cinematographic hopes, selecting a considerable number of productions from various years of study. The foreign films in the competition are a strong selection, and are thematically and stylistically representative for the searches of the young generation of filmmakers.

In its 25 years of existence, CineMAiubit has witnessed the colapse of an important part of the national film heritage, but at the same time, the festival has been the guarantor of the future: new generations of filmmakers have debuted on festival screens – promising voices were noticed and then confirmed. Over time, CineMAiubit has awarded names that later became the mainstays of contemporary Romanian cinema: Cristian Mungiu, Călin Peter Netzer, Corneliu Porumboiu, Adina Pintilie, Ivana Mladenovic, Iulia Rugină, Cătălin Mitulescu, Cristian Nemescu, Tudor Cristian Jurgiu, Dana Bunescu, Marius Panduru, Oleg Mutu etc.

The festival is organized by the National University of Theatre and Film “I.L.Caragiale” Bucharest (UNATC) and the Cinemaiubit Foundation, having as main partner the platform CINEPUB.RO and the Eforie Cinematheque, with the support of the Romanian Film Center (CNC), of the Romanian Filmmakers Union (UCIN), DACIN SARA – Author’s rights in film and audiovisual and of the Romanian Cultural Institute (ICR).

CineMAiubit was founded in 1996, at the initiative of Elisabeta Bostan, the dean of the Film Faculty at that time and since its inception it was more than a festival, acting as an educational platform as a catalyst in film university education.

Over the course of five days of screenings, the audience will have the opportunity to discover a wide range of original film visions from different cultural areas, belonging to some of the most promising current students, future filmmakers, and to take the pulse of the future of cinema. Romanian.

The festival Jury is composed of personalities recognized in Romania and abroad:
– director, producer and festivals curator Suzy Gillett – president of the jury (UK)
– film director and actress Alina Grigore;
– film director Gabriel de Achim;
– director of photography Vivi Drăgan Vasile;
– film critic Călin Boto.

In the last day, CineMAiubit will host two special screenings:
– a selection of three documentaries grouped under the title DOC.UNATC, followed by a discussion about the need and destiny of documentary film in Romania;
– a screening of the Active Archive cycle: heritage films from the UNATC film library, restored and rendered to the public.
