PLOT SUMMARY
A film about love and high school life that filled theaters. “Declaration of Love” can be considered one of the first Romanian “lovestories.” Adrian Păduraru and Teodora Mares are the protagonists, while Ion Caramitru and Tamara Buciuceanu play two unforgettable roles as the famous teachers Socrates and Isosceles, respectively.
CRITICAL REVIEWS
“The film marks the debut of a genuine sociological phenomenon of the 1980s, offering the younger generation the illusion of an alternative to the conformity of the cinema of the time, welcomed amidst the monotony of school uniforms.
Corjos and Gh. Șovu, the film’s screenwriter, placed two quiet and beautiful young people facing the baccalaureate, in love, to confront the world of teachers and parents who believe that “there’s no time for love”!
The authors of the comedy confront archetypes such as the class valedictorian, the girl of modest origins competing with the spoiled rich girl, bold as fire, the idealistic teacher with his head in the clouds, or the dry and precise schoolmistress, in a comedy-melodrama steeped in sentimentality, but also with the honest attempt to approach the mentality of the final years of high school.” – Tudor Caranfil
