PLOT SUMMARY

1984. Ceausescu orders the demolition of an architectural monument from the 18th century, the imposing Văcăreşti monastery, which became a prison in 1846. The dictator’s plan was to build an artificial lake instead.

After building five kilometers of walls, he didn’t have time to see his project carried out: history catches up with him and it is executed in 1989. The abandoned land of what was once Văcăreşti gradually turned into the most the largest urban delta in the world… Here is the story of this extraordinary place.

Eva Pervolovici about the film:

“The Bucharest Delta means five years of filming in a place where I grew up, a place that has become a real urban microcosm, but above all, for me, this project is about the extraordinary meetings with women who gave birth there, in prison. I look forward to sharing these experiences with the Romanian public, to embark together on a discussion about the past and what remains in the present.”
